This request for information could be due to the agency acting as a labour hire company where you are employed by the agency and they send you out to various employers for temp work hence the agency would be paying your wages.

An employment agency has no right to ask for personal details such as bank details, TFN or super until they have actually found you a job. If they're not the ones paying you, they don't need your bank details anyway. If they do, they can ask for them once you have a job through them. Driver's licence or passport or photo id of some sort may be asked as many employers need that information and the agency is preempting that request so they can forward you as a candidate if you're suitable.

I think every job I've applied for I've had to show my drivers licence, and at least one of passport/birth certificate. But I've only ever had to provide bank details, tax file number, and superannuation details once I've actually got the job.
The passport/birth certificate was to prove I am an Australian Citizen, and the licence was required in case I needed to drive a work car. |

that is very strange, I would only give them name and phone number. Which employment agency is it? ring their head office, or ring another employment agency and ask them if that's what they do, ask them why they need your bank details, unless they employ you themselves, otherwise you only give bank details to your employer.

Just received a phone call from an employment agency of a job. However, they require me to come in and register with them. That's fine, but what they require from me are the following, Bnak details, tax file number, superannuation details, birth certificate and or passport, drivers licence and any other licences held relevant to the the job for which I've applied. Now I am registered with other agencies, but none have required this much information. although I desperately wish to work I'm rather dubious about handing out all this info given that this is pretty much all that's required for identity theft. I'd be prepared to do this for an employer if I got the job, but with the agency there is no guarantee of employment. They do have a website that states they have offices Australia wide. Anyone out there that can give me a heads up please?
