This is one of the most stupid bank customer complaints I have heard. Banks record transactions when they receive them, otherwise you would be paying an extra few days of interest. Is that what you would prefer?

Same with a cheque account. The date on your statement is not the date you wrote the cheque, but the date the bank receives it.

Willyboy has the right idea with his Quicken. I too use Quicken and it's brilliant.

Try a basic bookkeeping course, and learn about bank reconciliation statements, then your life may be a bit easier.

is it not funny how easy it is to get money deducted from your account by mistake but when you find out how difficult is it to get it back?

I use Quicken and reconcile my credit and bank accounts daily. Takes less than five minutes. Categorise things and you get to see where your dosh has gone over time. Schedule your regular transactions. Simple really. You soon get to know whose transactions are delayed - Telstra are the slowest - surprise!

Use your bank's future transactions to automatically transfer the balance on the due date. Unless your one of these people who don't pay the balance and are happy to pay 20% or so interest.

Commonwealth Bank: Credit Card Statements never in chronological order

CBA offered us an Amex card and to replace the Mastercard with a new one, the attraction being 3 points per dollar spent instead of 1. Fine, no complaints. Except when you need to check receipts against statements. (Does anyone DO that any more?)

The problem is that your transactions AREN'T recorded in the order you made them, because they're printed in the order that the business submits the purchase. This might be after the weekend or public holiday or whenever they get around to submitting it. The result is the record of your purchases can never be in chronological order.

So, what's the big deal? A problem arises if you make as many purchases on credit (to get the maximum number of points), then you've got an awful lot of transactions to check with the dates all out of order. With an AMEX card, the problem is worse because the statements are now divided into either Mastercard or Amex purchases, so the purchase dates are out of sequence firstly for Mastercard and then for Amex.

This creates just so much more work, especially if you have to check on average 100 purchases a month. And for what? A discount of less than 1%?! So, I emailed via an obscure webpage and they eventually rang me, but the ultimate answer was that the head of the department that prints the statements won't budge from "that's the way we do it."

How arrogant and ignorant is that? ? The printing department wouldn't DARE print out reports out of chronological order if they had to go to Ralph Norris's desk, so why make us suffer this rubbish?

All the bank would have to do to make life a LOT easier for their customers would be to hit the DATE button on their spreadsheets and hit SORT just before they printed them. And instead of separating the statement into Mastercard and Amex purchases, can't the card type just be listed in the one list, all in chronological order?

How difficult is that? Any 1st year IT student could do it in 5 minutes, but no, the bank INSISTS on the status quo. And THIS from a bank that until recently would ask each customer if they rated the bank's service as 11 out of 10. Yeah, more like 11 out of 100.
