I have been with AAMI for years, I've had 2 claims [not my fault] and both times I have had great service.
I had bought the hire car option on my policy and only had to pay $10 per day, I take it you didn't choose that with your policy?

Also, with my second claim, I chose to get 2 quotes from mechanics that were close to me, and they then authorised one of the quotes [not the cheapest].

I know they give you some control over the mechanic, so why didn't you get quotes from repairs with hire cars if you needed one?

What about asking AAMI to claim your hire car expenses against the Third Party?
Perhaps you should read your policy and get more information, that way you can solve your issues.

AAMI have been great to me, don't get me started on Suncorp though...

Gave my car to AAMI 10 days ago using their 'valet service'. They provided me with a Hertz rental car at $15 a day for a maximum of 10 days. Amazingly, the repairer said that my $1,000 minor repair to a panel would take 10 days! At 2:30pm on the 9th day AAMI rang me to tell that I could pick up my car at 3pm the next day. All was fine at that point. When I got home from work at 6pm there was a message from AAMI that in fact my car would not be ready for another SIX days! Of course they are blaming the repairer and accept no responsibility themselves, even though they do not actively manage the repairs - they just wait for a call from the repairer if there is any problem. Now I have no car at all unless I want to take out a new rental car agreement at $50 a day for the next 6 days. I should have known better than to trust someone else with my car repair, and will in future deal directly with repairers. After 15 years with AAMI as a rating one customer, I will very soon move to a new insurer. Pathetic.

I've been in the same situation with AAMI/valet service. It turns out that 10 days is an inadequate length. I ended up $200 out of pocket!

I am dealing with AAMI, not as a customer in this instance. They refuse to provide reasonably requested information and have actually started that "they have the upper hand" and that we "don't know what we are talking about". Will be seriously considering cancelling my other insurances with AAMI when up for renewal.
