Goodyear
Apology

Hi NGE Members,

As you may have noticed, we recently published a consumer gripe in our Top 10 regarding Goodyear Tyres. Through Goodyear's discussion with us, it has been established the complaint was completely without foundation, and factually incorrect.

This has been confirmed by the RAC Tasmania, who were alleged to have endorsed the substance of the complaint in the first place. No such endorsement was ever given, and in fact the RAC Tasmania has confirmed that they never inspected the vehicle at the centre of the complaint.

Therefore NGE and I personally would like to apologise, unreservedly, to Goodyear for the statements published on this website, and during radio interviews I subsequently conducted with 3AK (Melbourne) on 18 July, and 4BC (Brisbane) on 19 July.

The complaint also asserted Goodyear did not care, and were ignoring the complainant. In reality Goodyear was not provided with even the most basic details of an accident referred to in the complaint, and could therefore not provide any response.

We regret any damage the statements we published may have caused Goodyear's reputation and we appreciate their approach in relation to this matter.

This statement was posted 11.55am on 31 July 2002.
