I bought an Acer notebook just before Christmas and it had a $149.00 cash back offer,
On the 9th Jnauary I applied in writing to have the cash back, since I had not heard from them until yesterday 13th February I phoned them up to be told I would not be receiving the cash back as I did not include the number that was on the original box.
When I told them the box was thrown away over Christmas they would not budge.
I gave them every piece of information required even the shop that sold me the notebook know me, but there is nothing they can do.I think this is their way of getting out of paying the cash backs |

Perhaps you should have read ALL the documentation. I think you are on the losing side here! |

I would suggest you put in a complaint with Dept of Fair Trading, see if they can help you out.
I'm so over Acer and all their crap promises!! |

"I bought an Acer notebook"
I stopped here....
I'd rather slam my hairy boys in the door of the jeep while listening to a whole CD of Nikki Webster than buy an Acer. |

Hahahaha not quite how I would have put it, derat but I completely agree!!
You should read what it says in order to claim the cashback, if it specifically states the things that need to accompany the claim, then you will have no luck persuing it through department of fair trading or anywhere similar. If they stated this particular requirement separately after you sent in the claim and it was not documented then you would have a case.
I recently got cashback for a camera, it stated I needed to send the receipt, photocopy of the bar code/serial number from the box (I could cut it out or copy it) and I also had to visit the website to fill out a claim form and get a reference number. Had I not sent everything I would be in the same boat as you but it would have been my fault for not following the instructions. I highly doubt it would have helped if I substituted the barcode for naming the store I bought it from, thats not a requirement of the offer. |

Just to add following instructions for cash back offers is required for any brand and cashback deal not just Acers. And the few Ive participated in have required either the barcode to be cut out or photocopied from the box on top of the receipt, so its not just Acer that require these details for their offers. |

Ewen,
Could you please elaborate on your comment some more pls
Does it say in there that Acer are full of b*%^sh*t
and that they'll promise you a full refund and then change their mind once they receive their machine back? |

It was a cashback offer. Not a refund/return. |

Yeah, I think Sony went over the top with that one, Jaime. Although it's the current trend, more documentation, not less. |

I got a cashback from my Acer Aspire last year. So they do not try to cheat their way out of it, it just takes a few months to get through.
I did have problems with the touchpad, it make the typing erratic, and sometimes my work would just disappear. I disabled the touchpad and replaced it with a mouse, ever since, it's been good. |
