DO not under any circumstances use Optus as your phone provider! I changed to them about a month ago.

It was very soon after that my phone line went dead. This happens now and again in the area I live when it rains heavily. When my phone line was with Telstra though it usually only took a day or so to repair. It took Optus nearly two weeks to fix it that time. The phone had been functioning again for about a week- until today.

Optus is impossible to contact. They do not answer emails and when I've called repeatedly my call is put on hold, then eventually hung up on without my ever having spoken to a human. I have spent vast amounts using mobile public phones trying to get an answer.

Now my phone line has died AGAIN today and I can't even get through to Optus (on another phone) to ask them to fix it!

I do live in a rural area. My mobile phone works out in the paddock, not at the house and I have now run out of credit on the mobile trying to call Optus, which means that I'll have to drive to town and try to contact them via public phone as well as buy more credit. I'm not hopeful of them ever answering my calls though.

Oh well, while I'm in town I'll call the TIO and some other phone service providers and see if I can find a provider to change to who might fix the line in a timely manner.

To make matters worse, my business is dependent on phone calls to take bookings. I have already lost a significant amount of business from the previous phone downtime and was just starting to recover when the phone died again.

I repeat- DO NOT EVER make the mistake of using Optus!!!

I have now made an online complaint to the TIO. However, after reading previous posts about Optus, I'm not hopeful. Can anyone recommend a phone service provider who can be contacted and might fix the phone line?

I have had billing issues with my mobile when it was with Optus but I have to say I have not had a single issue with my home phone or internet and so am happy to stay with them. I do understand that when you have an issue its hard to get it resolved but my experiences with that particular service have been fine so I will stay with them. But then a company would literally have to deny me service for me to go back to Telstra thats one path I wont walk again.

Thank you! My phone is working again, although that may just be because the wet weather has cleared up. I haven't heard anything from Optus or the Ombudsman as yet.
