thanks vp1959
i have been through the setup as per the manual and the air flow is also fine. in the cabinet it has a fan
heaps of flow.the speakers are mordaunt-short 901 so they too are top quaility. i had a 4300 marantz driving these prior to 6001 with no troubles at all.
i still believe its the amp.
thanks for your input.

Just a suggestion...
You hear your speakers, not the amplifier which only supplies the signal. So are your speakers in optimum condition? Are they of the correct impedance as suggested by the amp's manufacturer?

At that price, I would expect the amp would have an initial setup procedure whereby you fine tune the amp to your speaker's parameters, such as impedance, driver diameter, crossover properties, equaliser levels, etc. This is a feature of Onkyo amps of a similar price range.

This can be a little time consuming to get it right for your listening needs but worth it in the long run.

Also make sure the amp has an adequate air flow to minimise the overheating problem (no other components cluttering the amp and nothing at all sitting on top of the amp). Good quality connectors and cabling also assist.

Hope this may help you and happy listening.

Post subject: Marantz amp
Organisation name: Qualifi
Issue type: Complaint

August last year I purchased a 6001 Marantz amp to the value of over $2000 through Harvey Norman Nunawading store in Melbourne.
After much consultation with Qualifi ( QualiFi Pty Ltd is the Australian importer and distributor for Marantz ) about the product I wanted and the requirements I needed it to achieve Qualifi convinced me that the 6001 was the amp that I needed.
After I set the amp up it became evident that this amp was not going to be able to do all the things that I needed. I had it wired as recommended for the best results but in doing so I was unable to utilize some of the other features that I needed. One being the multi room function.
I contacted Qualifi and they were unaware that when wired a certain way that the amp was unable to perform all of its functions. So I was left with either losing some of the functions or lose some quality and wire it another way.

Not only wont it do half of what I need it to do, the machine kept going into standby mode for no reason. Secondly after running for half an hour or so on speaker A and B ( B speakers being in another room ) the machine seems too get to hot and then the unit starts to distort the music. I took the amp to Qualifi, it took 6 to 7 week to get the amp back.
They seem to have fixed the standby problem as this wasn’t the first time they had this problem and Marantz do have a service bulletin out on this very problem.

I still have the same distortion problem and Qualifi seem to think there is nothing wrong with my amp. I have spoken to The Harvey Norman Nunawading Store about this also and they wont do anything either as they believe it to be between myself and Qualifi. Great after sales service from Harvey Norman and Qualifi.
