Hi,
My fiancee and I recently held our engagement party at a local venue called 'HQ on Lytton'. We booked the date and confirmed what we wanted with the venue and all seemed to be going well.
On the night of the party we discovered that due to a mistake made by the Functions Manager our guests were only served 3 of the 5 food platters we ordered and paid for. The kitchen did not have any extra ingredients to make the 'Premium Platters' that we ordered for $95 each and only had sausage rolls & party pies to provide which made up a platter normally sold for $70 each.
At least my guests were getting fed on the night so I thought I would try and enjoy the night and worry about these problems later. As it turns out there was only 1 staff member left to tend bar & serve our food so there was no Manager to speak to.
The next working day I contacted the General Manager and advised her of the mistakes made on the night and requested a refund of the $50 (the difference between the platters we ordered and the ones we eventually got). The General Manager advised that she had spoken to the staff member working on the night (who was also the staff member who we originally ordered the platters through) and felt that we did not deserve a refund.
This really upset me but the General Manager would not budge. She eventually resorted to insulting me and advised she was not prepared to discuss it further.
I rang the Office of Fair Trading and they advised I had good grounds to lodge an official complaint, which I did. I have now received a letter from the Office of Fair Trading stating they have reviewed a submission supplied to them by the General Manager and sided with her.
My fiancee and I are a bit gobsmacked by this. I have read what the General Manager provided the Office of Fair Trading and it is all a complete fabrication.
My question is - is this the end of the road? I feel very upset about being lied about and ripped off. This is the first time I have ever had this sort of problem with any company so I am a bit unsure how to take it.
Thanks very much for reading. Sorry it's a scroller.

Fair trading should have advised you of this (assuming it's in NSW; not sure which state this refers to). However, I believe it is possible to take the case to the CTTT, although there is a lodgement fee of ~$35 and you will then need to be available to attend an arbitration/hearing session. In this, they will make a decision, but you will need to represent yourself and they will not be acting on your behalf as Fairtrading do to a certain extent.
If you wish to go this way, you would probably try to get some evidence/support for your position, to rebut whatever argument they have provided. If it becomes a case with two conflicting sides who do not agree without evidence either way then the decision is unlikely to go in your favour as there is insufficient evidence.

Although not totally clear in regards to which state the organisation is located in the original posters gripe, a quick search of google soon finds it.
