What state are you in?
I am in the process of building a house and a pool in NSW. A house and a pool DA must be submitted to the certifier and a construction certificate obtained through the certifier, before commencement of excavation of the pool. An inspection is also required by the certifier before concrete pour. Correct me if I am wrong, but therefore, I cannot see this hapenning in NSW.
It sounds like the house was designed and approved first and the pool was done totally separately.
I hope there is a satisfactory outcome for you in all this.

the company didnt pass crucial info on a building envelope on the site to the certifier. council pulled up construction after we had paid them $50k to excavate for the pool. in the meantime they advised the house builder there were no problems and house construction commenced also. in the end we had to redesign the house and pool and start again. as we have been held up in excess of 14 months there has also been significant cost escalation. something that wouldn't have happened had they passed on the details we provided them. we have also had neighbours experience problems with them also, and know of others.

Kysah, can you please provide more info? How is it costing you $100s of thousands? What info wasn't passed on to the certifier? What was the error, etc?

we made the mistake of trying to build a very expensive pool with aussie lifestyle pools, only to end up $100's of thousands of dollars out of pocket due to their incompetance and mismanagement. they were engaged to provide the approvals, which they did, however failed to pass on (knowlingly) specific and important information to their certifiers (Matrix). When the error was picked up by council they refused to refund our money, even under the treat of legal action, and won't even pass our claim to their insurers.
we would never recommend this company and would suggest you be guarded against their slick sales team.
hopefully we can assist the general public by putting this company out of business through the courts.
