Unless Panasonic (I assume your rear projection TV is Panasonic) provide some special deal for the $98, the warranty will probably date from original purchase including the balance of the extended warranty. I would not assume it comes with a 'normal manufacturer warranty' unless you receive specific paperwork stating that.

Most warranties and extended warranties call for replacement with a similar product if the product cannot be repaired, but at the vendor's option. In this case it appears a replacement is in order - the discussion would be around 'similar product.'

Since you were offered the Viera that is likely the most 'similar', but they might claim it is better than just 'similar', hence the $98 ask. The T&C in the extended warranty are the only important points, not other warranties or opinions.

Is the $98 ask a shipping or some other cost? Or for the basic replacement?

$98 seems to be a fair deal. Whats the TV normally worth? Plus this new one will have a normal manufacturers warranty too.

Take the Panasonic Viera. It may be smaller but it's a far superior tv than your rear projection and well worth the $98

ADVICE PLEASE.

I purchased a rear projection TV in Feb 04, and took out an extended warranty - this warranty still has 18mths left.

My TV has been in for repairs since April! They (extended warranty people) offered me a new Panasonic Viera 127cm/50' one in replacement or I could have my own TV fixed. If i took the new Panasonic I would have to pay $98 for the privilidge!

I have since found out that the TV cannot be repaired (after talking with the repairer). What I need to know is do I have to pay the $98 seeing that they cannot possibly fix my TV, and if I put this to them will they reduce the offer to a smaller/cheaper TV.
