Post subject: Foxtel installing equipment without owners permission
Organisation name: Foxtel Registered company is listening
Issue type: Complaint

We have an investment property and have only just found out there is a satellite dish on the roof and Foxtel has been installed.

This was done without our permission or knowledge.

If Foxtel had asked the tenant for proof he owned the house then it would have not bee installed.

What can be done to stop Foxtel doing unauthorised installations?

The tenant has been evicted through non payment of rent.

In all of our rental properties we have always had Foxtel installed and they have never asked us for permission. I think its more between the owner and tenant than Foxtel and the owner. If the tenant does the wrong thing by not getting your permission then its them you go after. I dont believe that it should be foxtels responsibility to check papers on who owns what or if they have a permission note. They just do the job theyre hired for, its up to the tenant to check they have permission. Most owners I came across in my years of renting were only too happy to allow us to install it because then its there for future tenants. But if you dont want it in your property, sue the tenant.

The tenant was only there less than 2 months before he stopped paying rent and took off so would love to sue him as you say.

The point is it was installed without our permission.

Foxtel can ask for proof so that is the issue.

The dish was put on the roof and foxtel installed in the house and that means they came onto our property without permission.

The landlord needs some rights too

Sorry but I still don't believe it's foxtels responsibility. If they say do you own the property and the tenant says yes, then what? People aren't going to want to give out copies of their personal legal documents to get a tv service installed (if they are the owner) The contract is between foxtel and the tenant, foxtel don't know or ask about the persons living arrangements. I do see what your saying, but I can't see how it's their fault. I know I wouldn't have it installed if I had to provide legal documents of my ownership of a property and many people would be the same. Alot of rental properties don't allow pets either, does a breeder or pet shop require permission from the owner or proof you own the place you live in? To me it looks like you're trying to find someone to blame that hasn't done a runner even if it really is not their fault.

Foxtel are very hard to contact which is not surprising.

I received an email from their Customer advocacy team to ring 1300 xxx xxx.

When I ring the number Im always put on hold.

So I wonder if Foxtel are ever going to answer the phone?

I sent them and email and still no response.

I bet they will answer their phone for new customers.

Whilst I must say Foxtel is absolutely **** when it comes to customer service... its not them you should be pursuing it is the tenant, as the owner you have their bond to pay for repairs to the property and removal of dish and wiring. You will get nothing out of Foxtel

"The dish was put on the roof and foxtel installed in the house and that means they came onto our property without permission."

Foxtel didn't enter your property without permission, they had the permission of the tenant. Your issue is with your previous tenant, not Foxtel. Just curious, if the tenant had asked permission, would you have said yes?
