I have car insurance with GIO, but I never had a claim so I don't know what they'll be like should I have a claim. I do know however that 1 in 3 insurance claims are fraud, no wonder they investigate the way they do and put those people with a legitimate claims through so much trouble.

Thank you for this posting. from your experience I WILL AVOID insuring anything with GIO, and refer people to this site before making any decision. Ill also tell my family to avoid GIO.
My car was recently stolen from an area the police referred to as a "high theft area". I lodged my claim with GIO & was informed that i'd be hearing from an internal investigator... 2 wks later I have my interview with this guy & was asked to give specific times of where I was & what I had done from the morning the theft happened to the following day. This was all fine but who can remmeber the specific times of what they did 2 wks ago?? Then I had to provide bank statments, any receipts for repairs done to the vehicle, phone bills, they also wanted a bank statement from when i purchased the car 6 yrs earlier!! Three wks has gone by & the police called me on tuesday night to to say they had located the car in a block of units of a house commission estate, so i contacted GIO to be told they couldnt do anything as their systems were down & to call back in the morning, so i called to advise them that the police had located the car & they didnt go & pick the car up till Friday afternoon! The following Monday i get a call to say that my car has been assessed & deemed a total loss due to the damage..then today (a week after it was located) i am told that i'm still going to be investigated as the car was deemed a total loss & a forensic locksmith will need to go over the car, prepare a report & then GIO will make thier decision..I have car hire option on my policy but that runs out in 6 days & then i'll be without a car...I have asked for them to extend it due to the length of the investigation & as it's been thru no fault of my own & they wont have a bar of it! I'll never ever use GIO for insurance again!
