Post subject: Foxtel refusal to switch HD channels on
Organisation name: Foxtel Registered company is listening
Issue type: Complaint

On 1 October I upgraded to IQ2. Technician carried out the work, all appeared well except that the HD channels were not switched on. I rang Foxtel and was told they would be switched on within 2 hours. 24 hours later I rang again and was told they would be switched on in 2 hours and that a consultant was working on the matter for me as we spoke. Two days later to this I rang Foxtel again and was told they did not know when the HD channels would be switched on. It is now 5 days after installation and the Foxtel HD channels are still not available. I have spoken with Foxtel staff 3 times and I believe the only truthful answer I received was the last one - they don't know when, even though I have paid for the full service.
Potential customers of Foxtel need to be warned that the company appears unable to deliver its promises, and that complaints to the company are met with polite but meaningless assurances.

Foxtel from Telstra - what a surprise!

I really think fox hd is a rip off as most of the shows besides live sports are all upscaled to HD

I would have blown my stack if that happened to me as they expect big bucks for subscribers to have that service and not meeting their promises is really bad IMO.

Interestingly, Foxtel have just sent me a nice email telling me that they are changing the package I have now to include HD sports, at an extra cost of $6.00 per month. Now I am being forced to pay for even MORE channels that I do not want.

When I went IQ2, I specifically requested NOT to have the sports channels as I am not interested in watching sports. So I got the basic package plus HD discovery, Sci Fi and the CI channel. NOW, they are putting on HD Sport for me at MY cost per month when I do NOT WANT IT.

Isn't that illegal? To add things and make yuo pay for it even if you do not want nor request it?

Might be time to reconsider my TV options again..

Update to my original post ...
It is now almost 2 weeks since I was "upgraded" and STILL the HD channels are not switched on. I have now been told a variety of stories by Foxtel consultants which unfortunately I must conclude now are deliberate lies - either that or the company is so incredibly incompetent they are quite unable to meet their promises. I am at a loss as to what to do next! I have posted here, and I have lodged a formal complaint with Consumer Affairs - but the fact remains that Foxtel steadfastly refuse both to meet their obligations to me or to offer an explanation that is anything other than bland and meaningless assurances. Can anyone suggest a constructive action I could consider?

rayart,

Ring Foxtel to cancel and demand no fees as they have not provided the service you purchased. Perhaps they might take more notice? ( Since they seem to have inherited Tel$tra's 'brilliant' customer service culture I would not hold my breath for anything to be done quickly, if at all. ) Some companies have 'customer retention units'. I do not know about Foxtel, but those units will often get things done that are otherwise 'impossible.' Ask if they have one.

Buy an antenna if you don't already have one, cancel Foxtel, and just watch the free digital channels.

Is Austar an option ?
