I tend to agree with Mitsubishi on this one.
If the rope is damaged it is usually due to the aerial mast jaming up , could be caused by a slight bend occuring while the aerial was in the up position. From my experience the slight bend often gets straighted by the owner or the owners partner. May have made contact with a low tree branch. The other cause of aerials jaming is lack of cleaning of the aerial mast. Either way , not a manufacturing defect.
However a replacement rope and mast is not usually very expensive. Otherwise live with the aerial not retracting.
If Mitsubishi got a little frustrated with you it was probably due to your attitude when you didn't get your own way perhaps.
Thats my 2 cents worth. |

I had the aerial and roof racks inspected by the Department of Consumer Protection who agreed that there is no external damage to the aerial (only internal broken rope) - therefore it is not broken or bent as Mitsubishi insists, the corrossion was also noted on the roof racks. For over a month the representative from Consumer Protection has been trying to speak to the Western Australian Representative who refused to return any calls or emails. As the Department of Consumer Protection has no real powers to force Mitsubishi to rectify (or even speak) to them about the issue - we have a choice to either let Mitsubishi win or take them to the Magistrates Court. I will be persuing the later - the arrogance of the Western Australian Representative to fail to even respond to any request to discuss this issue with the Department of Consumer Protection.
Again - spread the word DO NOT BUY A MITSIBISHI - BETER BUILT - BETTER BACKED - BULL^*%T |

computerflyer - I bought an i30 SLX 1.6TD and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm getting around 840km on a 53 litre tank around town and the car has just 4500km on the clock. I'd like to take it for a good run on the open road and see what the economy is like. I chose the i30 SLX because of the safety rating (it comes with front and curtain airbags, traction/stability control and cruise control as standard), and also during my research I couldn't find a nasty word about the car. Check out the i30 owner's club website, they're a great bunch of i30 owners. |

Good on you murdkm. I experienced an even worse situation at Bayford in Coburg.
I ask that you read my blog on 5 Star Platinum Extended Warranty, where a great many readers have since become aware of a bad situation.
If you don't speak up, then you will just be walked on, the car sellers fall all over you with promises, then get your money, and then you become just another sale. They don't want to see you again unless they can charge you exorbitant prices for service, or unless you are trading in for a new vehicle. The trade in prices on some of these cars are an insult, unfortunately it is all to do with money. They don't want to spend anything, they want you to. Good luck with these scumbags. |

Interesting post. I just narrowed down my next car to a new Lancer and Hyundai i30. We have a Tucson in the family and our local Hyundai dealer (Makin and Luby, Preston, Vic) has been pretty good w/warranty issues and the vehicle has been fairly cheap to own and operate as well as reliable.
Warranty response is as important as not having problems, and I suspect this might push me to the i30. (I have already discounted Ford and Holden because of herald sun auto section letters about their warranty and even safety positions.) |

Mitsubishi Warranty – Never Again......
Our automatic aerial on our car recently went up and never came down again – a recent inspection from an independent source indicates that the internal rope has broken. As we still had over 2 years to run on it’s so called ‘Better Built, Better Backed’ warranty from Mitsubishi, we automatically assumed it would be covered, and were advised the same from Department of Consumer Protection. However, Mitsubishi has refused to do anything other than an external inspection, we have been told by one retailer that it is bent, another retailer told us it is broken. Yet on both occasions, the people who were making these claims refused to physically show us where it was bent or broken. (ther is nothing wrong with the aerial !!!) During this period, my husband and I also took time off of work to specifically speak to the Mitsubishi Representative for Western Australia when he was last in Perth, to which we were belittled and insulted by his unprofessional manner, he refused to discuss or explain anything other than making a statement that he would not approve the warranty. Since receiving the independent report, Mitsubishi has now accused us of ‘tampering’ with the aerial saying that we had problems with it previously... these are further unfounded claims and insults....
We have been told by Mitsubishi staff (off the record or course) that Mitsubishi’s have had a lot of problems with their aerials and what we have experienced is a common problem.
Mitsubishi has now told us, if we pay to have the aerial replaced, then and only then will they inspect to see if it is an internal issue - is not a snapped INTERNAL rope a INTERNAL issue????
In addition to this, we have also had to replace the roof racks and cross bars on our car 3 times in 2 years due to a fault that causes them to corrode. We have now been informed that they have stopped making them (obviously because they keep corroding), we now have to search out parts for the older Mitsubishi’s and then when all of that stock is gone, they have no answers to what we can do
It is impossible to lodge a complaint as the complaints department will not provide any names or even titles of staff it you wish to take the matter further.... they also refuse to provide you with any postal address other than their own department – protectionism at its finest.....

This is the first time we have spent so much money on a new car and the main reason we chose a Mitsubishi was for the warranty.... what a mistake that has turned out to be.... If this is how they handle a small claim for a car aerial, I wonder what they will do if anything else goes wrong. So if you are like us and thinking of buying a Mitsubishi because you think you will have 5 years of carefree driving... think again... I know we will be getting rid of ours very shortly and would never consider a Mitsubishi again. |
