I have started replacing bread with pitas and wraps recently in an attempt to lower by intake of carbohydrates. I'm quite fond of the sandwiches at subway, so decided to give their wraps a go. Problem is the size of the wraps is so small that I need two to make it through the day.
I have been ordering two identical wraps, and the cashier will usually just ring it up as a footlong so I can enjoy the same discount that people who order the footlong breadrolls receive. I am happy with this as it seems to make sense and offers a bit of consistency in their pricing structure, and shows a willingness to compromise with the customer in the interests of customer service.
Every so often I will hit a few subway restaurants the refuse to do this, and charge me for two 6inch subs rather then a footlong. I do not understand why this is so, surely if the six inch price is the same for both subs and wraps the same discount should be available to a "footlong" wrap (2 x six inch ones)? The wraps do not require baking or toasting (which I guess would save them in electricity and preparation time) and the ingredients put onto the wrap are the same proportions added to a 6 inch sub.
I contacted customer support online and they told me that this is their official policy, the only reasoning they supplied was "there is no such product as a foot long wrap" available. But does it have to be a distinct product on the board, isn't it just representative of the size of the serving?

Consider that you are expecting common sense and rational pricing models. nope, if it is not a priced product it does not exist. In many restaurants you cannot order something off the menu because they cannot price it or enter into the computer register.
It might not make sense, but it is the pricing model not the product that matters. The shops that give you the discounted footlong price are going the extra distance for you, and the others could be construed as doing you, but in reality they are just following the system.

"shows a willingness to compromise with the customer in the interests of customer service."
At an individual level, yes. You would hope the cashiers doing this are the ones most likely to be managers some day because of that initiative. The others will be just be assistants to managers… LOL
Fact is one is called a wrap and the other a 6 inch. You are choosing to order two separate wrap’s and Subway is just adhering to its own menu pricing. Stupidly in this case but non the less transparent in its stupidness, as shown by their response…
