My one and only experience with Flexi-Rent goes like this:

Rented a Toshiba laptop, with a retail price of $2499. This was quite a few years ago. My contract was for 3.5 yrs, or 3 yrs in planning to upgrade and renew contract. Decided to buy at end of contract, so rang to find out how much the final payment would be. Now, consider I was already paying $139.00 (and change) per month, over 3 yrs, this amounted to just over $5000, or twice the retail price. Then, to add further salt, I was advised that to purchase outright, the current market price for a laptop of similar specs was another $600. So, all up, it would have cost me over $5600 for a $2500 laptop!

Needless to say, I advised them to make the necessary arrangements to collect the laptop, which was arranged for the next day. I just backed-up all my files and gave it back with a Linux operating system as it was going to be reformatted anyway. What they didn't get though was the extra RAM chip I purchased, as well as all the peripherals, nor did they get my password to access the operating system. I never did hear back from them, and have steered clear of anything to do with Flexi-Rent since, including Hardly Normal!

Organisation name: Flexirent
Issue type: Complaint

I have to admit that I have been conned into using Flexirent by a salesperson. It was sold to me as a rental agreement that would allow me to upgrade my computer equipment as required throughout the rental period or that I would be able to buy the equipment at the end of the term. However when it came to wanting to upgrade a desktop computer (original purchase price $649) I was told that I would need to pay $800 in costs to upgrade this to a laptop as well as the cost of the laptop. My complaint about Flexirent is that it is neither flexible or a rental agreement.

I have had plenty of experience with Flexirent and have always purchased the product at contract's end. Usually 1 month's payment and it's mine.

My FR booklet clearly states I am responsible for all repairs.

It never fails to amaze me how little research people do. With all the information at your fingertips there is no excuse for not knowing your options.

I never proceed with a major purchase without full knowledge. Don't rely on salespeople. You have all the resources you need on the internet.

Go look at the product then go home and research, research, research. Know what you're getting into then make an informed decision.

Organisation name: Harvey Norman Registered company is listening
Issue type: Complaint

After consulting with numerous staff members at Harvey Norman Warrawong, I commenced rental/purchase(Flexi-rent), of 175cm rear projection TV. I was informed by several staff that I would be able to rent the appliance for 3&1/2 years and then either purchase or trade in on a newer model, obviously at the current value for the used TV. My thought was that with the way technology is moving this would be the ideal way to keep pace with the market, and it was explained to me exactly that way.I have been renting now for 2&1/2 years and contacted flexi-rent in regards to my options coming up. I was informed that I could purchase the item, or HAND it back to them for nothing.I have since spoken to several staff members at Harvey Norman Moss Vale and they, despite wearing shirts with Flexi-rent plastered all over the front, are unable to explain the workings of flexi rentat all.

The appliance has broken down twice in 2&1/2 years and despite being taken away for 1 month at a time for the repair,a replacement was not given, and charges for the rental were still taken despite not having an appliance available.
I wonder if anyone else has had the same experience. Obviously had I been informed of my options prior I would have done more study of TV's and purchased interest free.
