Just like to point out that the staff at the holding yards are trained and well experienced at sweeping the cars for personal belongings. If its their they will find it ! |

Yeah I know,
I"m thinking of demanding AAMI bring my car back to where I dropped it off to allow me to collect the belongings that I wish to keep.
Mainly want my personalized number plates back and my etag etc
What you think I should do?
I will night sign my car over to AAMI to sell until I get my stuff back. |

I guess there may be a problem if there are hard to find nooks, or tiny things, or valuables that you don't want to risk not getting back. If your contents are straightforward and easily visible, then I'd agree with computerflyer's suggestion. If you have things that fall into the above though, or just a large volume of things that it may be simpler and safer to collect yourself, I'd pursue AAMI to try to get access.
That said, the process is normally as they say, that you are notified and collect your possessions from AAMI's assessment centre before it is passed on. At auction houses they do make it more difficult for others to visit (and take things out of the car). |

> Anyone got any suggestions as to what I can do?
Wait a few days as AAMI asked. You can go with the flow as they asked, and react if it goes bad in the end; or you can fight the system now, have aggro, and even alienate those who would otherwise be sympathetic or helpful for your claim.
What usually happens is that someone will get everything from the vehicle, that is not bolted down (excepting the spare and jack kit), put it in a box or bag, and bring the lot to you, even to the point of a used tissue, if they find one.
If it goes bad in the end, lodge a claim for the value of your lost goods, and costs. |

My car was damaged by the hail storm that hit Melbourne on Saturday 6th March.
I took my car on Tuesday 9th March to the AAMI customer service centre, I was told I would be called the next day in regards to the decision. This did not happen so I allowed another day to pass as I assumed they were busy with the multiple claims they would be receiving.
However today I called AAMI and enquired where my car was and was informed it was at the customer service centre I had taken it to. When I arrived it took about 15 minutes for the staff to inform me that the car has since been taken to Pickles in Tullamarine and is up for auction on Tuesday 16th March!
My belongings are still in the car. I was told when I took the car for assessment on Tuesday I would be able to return to collect my belongings once a decision was made. I found out yesterday that my car is a total loss and AAMI claim they called my private home number and left a message on the answer machine. . I was NEVER called about the decision that the car was a total loss though AAMI computers say they did call me. Our answer machine is new and is by no means faulty so therefore this call NEVER occurred.
As far as I am concerned and as no payment has been made yet, the car is my property still and as far as I am also concerned I see the movement of my car to Tullamarine (without my knowledge) as theft. I have informed AAMI I want my belongings back, which they say they will courier to me in a few days but how do I know they will get everything I want?
I was not permitted to go down to Pickles as staff said it was unsafe for me to do so and it was the responsibility of AAMI to courier my belongings back to me.
Anyone got any suggestions as to what I can do? |
