Organisation name: Melbourne Central Medical Centre
Issue type: Comment

The day we went in (Wednesday), her blood was taken, and the doctor said that if everything looks fine, then he will have the blood test results sent in 2 days time (Friday). Ofcourse before he would send the results to HSA, he would be reviewing the results for any inconsistencies (on Thursday or Friday day).

When I called the doctor 2 weeks later to follow up, it was his first review of the blood test. If there was something serious, then yes definitely we would expect a call straight away. And if it was non-serious, then the test results should have been posted to HSA. I was in the room while my fiance's blood was being extracted and he even said that if anything was wrong (or any inconsistencies) he would call and notify her. He took down her phone number too.

But anyways, I will be calling the reception shortly to see if we can go into their office and ask for our documents back without paying any fees...and then from there on, we will go to see another doctor.

Normally when you have a test done, YOU have to ring the doctor for the results usually in 2 or 3 days, however if there's something wrong and it's urgent then you might get a call from the doctor. maybe you didn't know that

Thanks DG58. We will mention that this afternoon when we see him. We paid once and that should be all that we should be paying for.

It truely isn't fair that we are paying for a service where we are doing the follow-ups. And if the doctor did lose any documentation/results or if he (really) discretionally thought my fiance was in physical danger...he should have gave us a call straight away, instead he waited until I gave him a call just to find out that he is worried and that she needs to see a gastrologist. eusa_snooty.gif

May also suggest that you ask him why she had to come back to see him, it might be because he simply lost the results from the first test, and if so I would advise the cashier that i already paid once and wouldn't pay again as it's not your fault, unless they say that the first test was not conclusive.

(Hi DG58) Me and my fiance had actually thought about it last night, to see another doctor for a second opinion.

We decided that today at 5pm she will have her appointment with David Phillips. If David is still going to appoint/refer her to see a gastrologist, we will be requesting our documents back and we will be advising that we are going to see another doctor for a second opinion.

No matter what, my fiance will need to go and see him this afternoon because David has her original copy medical documents for the HSA. Once we get these documents back, then we can move on and get her visa application processed by another doctor. Right now, these medical documents is the only thing that is delaying her visa.

Why don't you go and see another doctor? (second opinion)I understand it cost money, but just because it says "Doctor" on his door doesn't mean he knows what's he doing.

My fiance is currently on a bridging defacto visa and one of her requirements is to have a medical check up (blood test) done and results sent to HSA ASAP for visa processing. My partner had a medical blood test done overseas 3.5 weeks ago (we were overseas and about to come back to Australia) and the results were fine (Doctor in Brunei did not see any inconsistencies). Once we got back to Australia which was a couple of days after the first blood test, she had to see an Australian practitioner ($60 charge) because it is a requirement for her visa application. The practitioner, David Phillips (Melbourne Central Medical Center) was given the blood results taken from overseas and he reviewed it and he said everything looks ok. He then took another blood test and also to send "his" so called results to HSA. It was a Wednesday and he said that "his" blood results that he would send it off 2 days later on the Friday. Two weeks had passed, and we assumed that everything was fine and that HSA were in the act of processing the visa application. We heard from the HSA that no medical documents had been received. I decided to call David and enquire about my fiance's results...it's been 2 weeks and he hadn't even looked at the blood results he performed on her and also he didn't keep his word about sending off the blood results to HSA 2 weeks earlier on that Friday. When I had spoke to him on the phone, he was reading off his computer thinking what he should do next (I had the phone to my ear for 3 quiet minutes while he was thinking). He then said he would review the blood test and give her a call that day. He didn't call her at all that day, so then around 5pm that afternoon I called David and he advised my fiance that she needs to come and see him again (another $60 charge) and that also she will need to see a gastrologist, which will cost a few hundred dollars. Keep in mind, my finance has never had any physical problems such as this, nor family history of such disease. My fiance has regular blood checks throughout her life and all doctors that she has visited, say that she's fine. 0n top of that, my fiance has a degree in pharmacy and has worked closely with doctors and patients. Imagine if I didn't call Dr David Phillips 2 weeks later to follow up on the blood test results?! Seriously, it would have been 3 months later and nothing would be done. And honestly, my fiance to see a gastrologist when there's no indication to? Ofcourse Dr David Phillips has all the right to say "I just want to make sure that you are physically ok because I am liable if anything happens", any doctor can say anything like that and you have to obey. Well, doctors are smart and discretional decisions are made. This decision he made is ridiculous! His definitely going to make a small percentage cut for referring his services to a gastrologist. My finance's visa application is time critical and this doctor is not helping eusa_snooty.gif
