Post subject: replacing defective blind
Organisation name: Jim's blinds
Issue type: Complaint

some weeks ago our estate agent employed the local "Jim's Blind" man to fix our blockout blind. he advise us it could not be replaced a it had been incorrectly installed to which we replied, "it works and provides blockout as we want. After several complaints he returned and took the new blind away to be modified. As he left I specifically requested he contact us n a given day, 2 weeks hence to arrange for reinstallation. we returned on the said day and contacted him to which he replied,I don't have time, put a sheet up! I might be there in 5 days time, in the meantime , tought luck. I protested and was told it was our fault but to no avail. as a result we have endured 5 nights and mornings without a decent blockout blind an subsequent disruption and inconvenience.
we still do not have a solution.
My complaint is thus: had he fixed the blind and replaced it as it should have been on his first visit a lot of anoyance on both sides would have been avaoided, bad workmanship.
secondly, as we were to be away while the blid was fixed and an agreed arrangement to erect the new blind with 2 weeks notice should be sufficient for any so called tradesman. being too busy is simply not an excuse for any business man with 2 weeks notice.
thirdly the "property manager" made the observation that he will not use frachisees as they are useless. pity he was not there at the start!

I don't believe the man should be paid and the system which allows for this offhand "she'll be right" attitude to prevail in a group as large as "Jims" is and should be unaccaeptable.

Your gripe should be with the landlord via the real estate agent. Politely inform them that you will not being paying rent until the issue is resolved.

"Politely inform them that you will not being paying rent until the issue is resolved."

And then you possibly receive an eviction notice - great advice icon_rolleyes.gif

It will cost the landlord more to have the property manager process an eviction notice than to fix the blinds.

...assuming the property manager/landlord is financially rational. Some would evict to remove the "troublemaker" and avoid the "next time", which is in their view quite rational.

Witholding rent regardless of the reason is generally a losing proposition for the renter. The landlord can come after you, put you on rental blacklists, provide unfavourable references, and on it goes.

The gripe is really with Jim's Blinds franchisee, so why would the agent/landlord be penalised for engaging a service via a supposedly reputable organisation, that turned out dodgy through no fault of theirs?

Satchmo is a third party who could claim compensation for inconvenience, that may or may not be forthcoming; and as a separate action from paying or not paying rent.
